Introducing Gillie and Marc and The Wonderful Adventures of Dogman and Rabbitgirl

Gillie and Marc are partners in art and love. They met twenty years ago in Hong Kong, when Gillie was a nurse from England and Marc was a boy from Melbourne’s suburbs. Just a week later, they married in the foothills of Mount Everest. Not too long after, Dogman and Rabbitgirl were born. Wildly popular, these figurative characters star in collections across the world. Together - part animal, part human Dogman and Rabbitgirl act as Gillie and Marc’s alter egos - travelling the globe and falling love. Meet the whirlwind genius of Dogman and Rabbitgirl!

She loved doing things differently and this was it

Core to Gillie and Marc’s practise, is the idea of balance. Gillie balances Marc out, animals balance out humans and art balances reality - reminding us, it's okay to do things differently.

She thought, kiss me like it’s our first kiss

Gillie and Marc think deeply about relationships. They live together, raise children together and paint together. In She thought, kiss me like it’s our first kiss the couple conjures the bliss of first falling in love.

They always ride together in New York

They called Sydney home although they were citizens of the world

He wanted to ride away from his problems, but then ran out of petrol

The titles of Gillie and Marc’s work read like phrases from a book. In He wanted to ride away from his problems, but then ran out of petrol Dogman considers riding off into the horizon - haven’t we all daydreamed about getting away?

He wondered why life sometimes felt like you were going around in circles

Part of being in love, is facing tough times together. In He wondered why life sometimes felt like you were going around in circles, Dogman and Rabbitgirl embrace the monotony of life arms wrapped around one another.

She surfed Bondi only when it was big

This tongue-and-cheek celebration of Gillie sees Rabbitgirl riding the waves of Bondi. How adventurous.

Their better halves

Not only as artists, but also as people Gillie and Marc have found that together is better. Finalists in the 2006 Archibald prize, the team certainly has a knack for uncovering humanity, even in people more canine than person.

He was always in a rush but she was happy to go along for the ride

Repeatedly, Dogman and Rabbitgirl are pictured going places - whether in Paris, New York or Sydney. As they traverse the world, Gillie and Marc offer us a chance to ride along and with them, celebrate life and love.

Across their career, Gillie and Marc have exhibited in over thirty solo exhibitions and been commissioned to create public artworks. It seems the world is eagerly awaiting more adventures from Dogman and Rabbitgirl.
