Anne Marie Graham sees visual art and music as parallel. Within her preferred subject, nature, rhythms abound her: the crescendo of a sloping hill; staccato blossoms of a springtime tree; and steady beat of an azure sky.

This aural imagining permeates ‘Lovers in Autumn’. Large and richly coloured, this work sees Graham conduct a visual symphony. Seagulls punctuate rolling grass, bordered by wooly trees; in the distance looms a formidable structure. There is something hypnotic here, like sweet nothings exchanged between lulled lovers.

Armed with a unique vision, Graham is an esteemed artist. She was born in Austria, studied under George Bell and is inspired by the wit and humanity of Pieter Bruegel. The job of an artist to guide the onlooker, take him for a walk in the picture – and that means composition, of course says Graham.

For collectors of screenprints, landscapes and Australian art, ‘Lovers in Autumn’ is a rich find.
