Graeme Base

Graeme Base (b. 1958) is an English-born artist who moved to Australia in 1966. He is noted for his distinctive illustrations in picture books for all ages. Base’s work is esteemed for his densely illustrated pictures, full of humor and rich details that challenge readers' powers of observation. Popular representations and subject matter include highly stylized representations of food, musical instruments, wildlife and fantastical creatures.

Base’s work is held across Australian collections, most notably displayed at the National Museum of Australia in an exhibition created based on his book ‘The Water Hole’.
