Paul Delprat

B. 1942

Paul Delprat is a beloved figure in Australian art. He was a close compatriot of Charles Blackman, is the current Principal of Sydney’s oldest fine art school The Julian Ashton Art School and has published illustrations in The Sydney Morning Herald, Bulletin, Quadrant and numerous Penguin books.

Beyond fine art, Delprat has also worked in film. For the 1969 film ‘The Age of Consent’, starring Helen Mirren and James Mason, Delprat created paintings, drawings and sculptures of Mirren. In 1994, he painted Elle Macpherson, Portia de Rossi and Kate Fisher for ‘Sirens’, another filmic adaptation of a Norman Lindsay novel.

In a testament to his varied yet vibrant contribution to Australian visual culture, Delprat’s sometimes devilish art is represented in numerous state, municipal and university collections.
