Victor Rubin

B. 1950

Victor Rubin has described his practice as the “history of art”. Committed to aesthetic inquiry, he has studied prehistoric and Western art movements, including Modernism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and beyond. Here, he finds the means to investigate critical questions of existence - the end of life, migration, war, the everyday and utopia. Rubin’s perspective is nuanced, touched by allegory and caution, yet still experimental.

Rubin has exhibited widely, including at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. He is represented in numerous public collections, as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, Heide Museum of Modern and in the private collections of Patrick White and Miles Davis.
