Sandra Leveson is a bright light in Australian art. Her luminous landscapes, inspired by Geometric Op and Abstract Expressionism, combine European and Antipodean elements. The infinite horizon of Central Australia is suffused in soft European light; Leveson is uninterested in the specificities of place.

The poetically titled ‘Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Clouds’ is a portrait of New Zealand. It was gifted to its former owner as a 60th birthday gift, and was where Leveson herself spent her 60th. Textural, otherworldly and impactful, it is a reminder to celebrate life in all its beauty.

Her work is represented in numerous collections here and internationally, these include: the National Gallery of Australia; the Art Gallery of NSW; Art Gallery of SA; and numerous tertiary and regional collections. For collectors of landscapes, Abstract Expressionism and works on paper, Leveson is an awe-inspiring find.
