In his series, Remnant, photographer Christopher Rimmer descends into the Australian outback. Set against the backdrop of covid, the resulting photographs are portraits of isolation, the Australian sublime and spent ambition – abandoned service stations, unfinished railways lines and rusted debris.

‘Nature Always Wins in the End’ is an image of an automobile in demise. Like a dinosaur’s skeleton, the rusted car shrivels under the desert sun. In his journeys through the outback, Rimmer witnessed progress, loss and environmental degradation, finding that the only constant is time. Even the great automobile is nothing against the tyranny of time.

An internationally acclaimed Britain-born, South African raised and now Victoria based artist, Rimmer’s work is a compelling find for collectors of photography, contemporary landscapes and those who care for the environment.
