In his series, Remnant, photographer Christopher Rimmer descends into the Australian outback. Set against the backdrop of covid, the resulting photographs are portraits of isolation, the Australian sublime and spent dreams – abandoned service stations, unfinished railways lines and rusted debris.

In ‘Stuart, New South Wales’, Rimmer finds unexpected beauty in the remnants of an abandoned gold mine. A ghost of exhausted ambition, all that remains is rusting metal between wood. For the artist, progress—driven by a perpetual desire to create—poses the question: What is lost and what is gained in its pursuit?

An internationally acclaimed Britain-born, South African raised and now Victoria based artist, Rimmer’s work is a compelling find for collectors of photography, contemporary landscapes and those who care for the environment.
