Clayton Tremlett 'Oryctolagus Cuniculus - Eco Terrorist' - Collected by Bruce

Clayton Tremlett’s Oryctolagus Cuniculus - Eco Terrorist is a portrait of a pest. Like a poster for a wanted man, Tremlett captures the European Rabbit – a species that arrived in Australia with the First Fleet and since being released into the wild, has led to the endangerment of over three-hundred species of flora and fauna. They are, in the artist’s words, ‘Eco Terrorists’.

Oryctolagus Cuniculus - Eco Terrorist forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.

An innovative printmaker, Tremlett is represented at the National Gallery of Australia, Geelong Gallery, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and Bendigo Art Gallery. For enthusiasts of printmaking and socially conscious art, Tremlett is a rewarding catch.
