The British-born David Aspden came to prominence with hard-edge abstraction and shaped canvasses, a selection of which featured in the landmark exhibition, 'The Field' at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1968. Moving later towards a more lyrical abstraction, his works became akin to meditative compositions inspired by environment and surrounding landscape.

Aspden's importance to the evolution of Australian abstract movement had been recognised by numerous awards and prizes, inclusion in important curated survey exhibitions, and acquisition of his works by notable public, corporate and private collections in Australia and abroad.

The present work illustrates Aspden's passion for graphic arts. Closely related to his paintings of the period, the work is notable for its rich colours and balanced composition. This work is a wonderful find for budding art buyers, seasoned connoisseurs of graphic arts, and dedicated collectors of modern and contemporary abstract art movements.
