Charles BLACKMAN (1928 - 2018)

Painted in 1956, ‘Dreaming Alice’ is among Charles Blackman’s most iconic images. Staring Lewis Carroll’s Alice, the scene rings of Blackman’s then wife and muse, Barbara, in whom he recognised Alice. Eyes closed and blissfully unaware of the swirling world around her, Blackman’s Alice is suspended weightless beside swelling flowers - a symbol of his wife’s pregnancy. Caught between worlds, ‘Dreaming Alice’ is quintessential Blackman.

‘Dreaming’ is initialed and signed by the artist, limited in edition to 125, blind embossed with the Blackman seal, accompanied by a Letter of Provenance and comprised of the finest quality museum-grade materials. For more information, to discuss viewing, framing or payment solutions like artmoney or layby please reach out. One of Australia’s most iconic artists, Charles’s work speak to us all.
