Collection: Charles & Auguste Blackman are 'Mad About Alice!'

One hazy summer’s day, a child decides to follow a rabbit down his burrow. A century later the Blackman family would take the same tumble, ending up with Alice in a world called Wonderland. The kinship shared between the Blackman family and Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is among the richest bonds in Australian art. In Alice, Charles Blackman saw his increasingly blind wife Barbara. In the White Rabbit, his son Auguste sees his father and in the Dormouse sits Auguste himself, forever peeking from behind teacups wistfully watching his parents whirl through life.
