Bill HENSON 'Untitled #42 1983-1984'

Regular price $16,000.00

Bill Henson is recognised as one of the most outstanding photographic artists working in Australia today. Australia’s representative at the 1995 Venice Biennale, subject of several books and important survey exhibitions, Henson’s works are to be found today in numerous prestigious national, state, regional and tertiary institutions as well as notable corporate and private collections in Australia and across the globe.

The artist currently exhibits with Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney and Tolarno Galleries in Melbourne.

The present work comes from a series of photographs which juxtapose baroque interiors to the images of street youths. While most of the works from the series come in sets of two or more, this sought-after image is one of the very few stand-alone pieces of the series. The desaturation of the image demonstrates the burgeoning influence of the Old Masters statuary and of the Italian film noir, for which the photographer would become famous in his later works.

The present work would be an important addition to both emerging and sophisticated collectors of contemporary photography as well as to anyone appreciative of the male form in art.
