David Frazer is one of Australia’s preeminent printmakers. His imagery, which is often set in the landscape, is a feat of both technical and narrative ability. As Australian journalist Martin Flanagan reflected, Frazer’s vision both soars above and is “nevertheless implanted” in the land.

In ‘Shipwreck II’, Frazer presents the industrial outskirts of a town. A space of forgotten and rebuilt bits, this landscape is the shipwreck of a town. The artist has masterfully used wood-engraving technique to give his subject a sooty, engrossing effect.

Frazer has won numerous awards for his prints, including major prize winner at the 1st International Print Biennale; the Broken Hill Outback Prize; won the Acquisitive award and people’s choice at the Fremantle Print Awards and Banyule Works on Paper Award. In 2007, the ABC produced a documentary on the artist. His work is held across public collections and internationally, at the National Museum of China and the Royal Academy of Art in London.

For admirers of printmaking’s artistry, the Australian landscape and a city’s outskirts, ‘Shipwreck II’ is the treasure for you.
