Joan Lindsay

Lady Joan Lindsay (1896 - 1984)  was an Australian novelist, playwright, essayist, and visual artist, best known for her enigmatic novel Picnic at Hanging Rock (1967). Having studied under prominent artist Frederick McCubbin, Lady Lindsay was discouraged from continuing her artistic practise after marrying Sir Daryl Lindsay in 1922. Despite this, she has since been recognised as a highly gifted visual artist whose ability to emesh the romantic and uncanny connects her written and painted work.  To read more about Lady Lindsay’s fascinating life, click here and to read about her unique legacy read our blog post here.
