John Firth-Smith is one of Australia’s leading abstract-expressionist painters. He was at the forefront the abstract-expressionist movement in the 1970s and in 1975 was awarded the Patrick McCaughey Painting Prize. Described as meditations in space, his work plays with aesthetic theory.
Firth-Smith exhibits regularly both in Australia and internationally. He has completed commissions for the Deutsche Bank, ANZ Bank, Monash Medical Centre and the Grand Hyatt Hotel. His work is held in major private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, the Arts Gallery of New South Wales and TarraWarra Museum of Art.
