Lin Onus (b. 1948-d.1996)
Yorta Yorta artist Lin Onus combined traditional and contemporary Aboriginal imagery into his own distinctive language, and helped pioneer the Urban Aboriginal art movement in the later half of the twentieth century. A self-taught artist, Onus explored the boundaries of landscape and photo-realist paintings, printmaking, installations, and sculpture. His work is infused not only with a razor sharp wit and sense of ironic whimsy, but is also influenced by Onus’ political and cultural upbringing. His work is held in all major national, regional and university collections in Australia, and is also held in several international collections.
