Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan is among Australia’s most celebrated contemporary artists. His distinctive, gestural style is akin to a visual novel - immersing the viewer in a landscape of dry wit and poignant themes. Currently, he is best known for his excavations of Australia’s colonial history, particularly in the region surrounding his Wollongong home. As a adoptee and migrant of New Zealand, he can emphasise with the experience of displacement. Ryan is a thirteen-time Archibald Prize finalist and a finalist and recipient of many other prestigious awards. He is represented in many public and regional art collections including Artbank, as well as numerous private collections.
