b. 1929 - 2014
Among Australia’s few highly recognisable pop artists, Richard Larter’s work is frenzy of popular culture, commentary, colour and pattern. Gifted with the ability to bring together disparate techniques, he was as known for his collage works as his densely patterned Pointillist style. Despite migrating from England to Australia in 1962, he was a much beloved figure in Australian art. In 2002, Larter was the subject of a major exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art and in 2008, the National Gallery of Australia presented a retrospective of him.
