Collection: Robert Juniper

B. 1929 - 2012

Robert Juniper is among Australia’s leading artists. Hailing from Western Australia, he is best known for his lyrical depictions of the landscape and is influenced by English painters of the early 20th century, Paul Klee and Japanese 19th century art.

Juniper is the recipient of numerous accolades. In 1976 and 1980 he won the Wynne Prize, and the Mona McCaughey Prize in 1980. He is also the recipient of an Order of Australia for services to visual art, an honorary doctorate from the University of Western Australian and in 1989 was presented with a State Living Treasures Award from the state government. In 1999 the Art Gallery of WA held a major survey of Juniper.

There is a spontaneity in Juniper’s hand, a captivating verve that appears more felt than thought. Represented in every national collection, Juniper is an icon of Australian, and in particular West Australian, art.
