Sokquon Tran (1969) is a Cambodian-Australian contemporary artist, who is best known for his ethereal landscapes. Tran’s paintings are imbued with an emotional and spiritual significance that speaks to the romantic tradition of the past. Decorating his otherworldly subjects with richly-hued shadows and rippling natural light, Tran’s seemingly simple compositions are about more than meets the eye - echoing the profound and other-worldly qualities of the sublime. Not only are his paintings breathtakingly beautiful in their quiet stillness, but stir a deep sense that a presence more powerful than human is more real than we think. Sokquon Tran is exhibited and collected extensively across the globe, and has been a finalist in the Woollahra Sculpture Prize and the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
