The Brooklyn-born Frank Kleinholz had pursued a career in law before focusing on art full-time. Apart from a brief infatuation with Abstract Expressionism, Kleinholz had remained a deeply-rooted proponent of Social Realism in art.

The present lithograph illustrates his favourite subject matter of family bonds and relationship between adults and children against the backdrop of New York, Brooklyn, and Coney Island. Son of a blind father and a hard-working mother who supported her family through working in a delicatessen shop, Kleinholz had to earn a living from his adolescence by selling newspapers and running errands for local businesses. The images of playing children can be said to represent an idealised version of his childhood.

Acquired in the 1970s, and kept in a pristine condition, this rare to the market print is a must-have for emerging and established connoisseurs of international art and print collecting.
