Victor Majzner once wrote that “Art makes the intangible visible”. In this folio of ten screenprints, his intangible is the Jewish concept of God as both spiritual and immanent, meaning reflected throughout the material world. The folio’s title - ‘Images of Tanya: A Folio of Ten Screenprints in a Deluxe Presentation Folder’ - refers to a Kabbalistic text, Tanya, that offers a mystical interpretation of the Torah.

The screenprints that comprise this series are so exquisite, they must be beheld in person to be fully appreciated. Vividly coloured, delicately constructed and laden with spiritual, personal and environmental allusions, they speak to an artist who cares deeply for the world. Present is Majzner’s motif of the disembodied jacket, which indicates a human presence while also connecting to the Jewish experience of concealment. There are also star scattered skies, golden deserts and theological phrases. Majzner has worked diligently to connect language and faith with art’s penchant for the abstract and symbolic.

An accomplished Jewish-Australian artist, Majzner is represented in numerous public collections, including at the National Gallery of Australia, the National of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. For collectors of socially conscious and Jewish art, let ‘Images of Tanya: A Folio of Ten Screenprints in a Deluxe Presentation Folder’ brighten your collection. There is more here than meets the eye.
