Auguste Blackman’s ‘Love Story’ was conceived when the last of his six children left home. Finally empty nesters, he and his wife of over twenty years were left to contemplate their marriage. The result was an outpouring of love. Rather than fixate on what was changing around them, Blackman discovered the breadth of shared experience that is forged through two people building a life together.
In ‘Love Story’, this entwining of selves takes form. As two blissful figures merge, a point of overlap forms, crowned with a bouquet of flowers - this represents the family Blackman and his wife have nurtured. Accompanied by a love poem, this deeply felt image, in the artist’s own words aims to “capture the love and fight in one frame”. And it does, embodying the special space between soul mates, parents, friends and lovers. This moving oil painting is framed and ready to be hung in your family home.
