Susan Baird’s work captures the essence of the Australian landscape. She often works en plein air, paying careful attention to the environment’s liminal moments - the sun retreating behind a cloud, wind moving between trees or the last burst of light before dusk. In this way, there is a musicality to her work - a tempo in pace with nature’s shifts.

‘Aqua Marine’ is a bright image. It captures a bay, dotted with sailboats, sparkling a sunset. Rather than exactitudes, Baird captures the spectrum of light - from indigo shadows to tangerine sky, reflected against the cornflower blue and lemon-yellow water.

Baird is a respected artist based in the Hills End, NSW. She is a multi-time finalist in numerous awards, including the Mosman, Blake and NSW Parliament Plein Air awards. Her work is represented at numerous regional and corporate collections including Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, Cowra Regional Art Gallery and Art Bank. For collectors of prints and contemporary landscape, Baird is a breath of fresh air.
