In the later years of his life, Charles Blackman returned to his favourite motifs. From cats, to Alice in Wonderland and his schoolgirls, drawings from this period testify to an artist whose first love was always drawing. With a life spent Rotring pen in hand, the characters in this work are less art historical icons (although they are), and more keenly, Blackman’s treasured companions. Fully signed and from the artist’s personal archives, this charming, elegant image is the fruit of one of Australia’s most imaginative artists.
