Among his most well-known works, the Alice series sees Blackman re-imagine Lewis Carroll's childhood classic. Under Blackman however, the myth is undercut with the personal. Associating Alice with his then wife Barbara, he sees Alice’s disorientating tumble through Wonderland as akin to his wife’s experience as a person with deteriorating eyesight. From the 1956 painting, this work epitomises Blackman’s uncanny ability to merge the sentimental and serious.
‘Alice in Wonderland’ is signed with initials by the artist, limited in edition to 125, blind embossed with the Blackman seal, accompanied by a Letter of Provenance and comprised of the finest quality museum-grade materials.
