Dated 1953, Charles Blackman’s ‘Leaves’ is an astoundingly elegant work. Inky leaves pressed against paper, a ghostly imprint of nature made eternal. It rings of a walk in autumn, debris pocketed as keepsakes, browning in coat pockets.

For collectors of Blackman, ‘Leaves’, from the artist’s archives is a beautiful find. It is early and unusual, a poetic vestige from another time.
