Nadine Amadio and Charles Blackman were lifelong collaborators. Among the ripest fruits of their union was ‘Orpheus (The Song of Forever)’, a 128 page book of poetry written by Amadio and illustrated by Blackman. ‘Orpheus (The Song of Forever)’ tells the tragic story of Orpheus, whose song was said to charm the animals and make the trees dance.
The Greek myth states that after losing his love, Eurydice, Orpheus pled with Hades of the Underworld for her back. Mellowed by his song, Hades agrees on the condition that as Orpheus leaves the Underworld he must not turn back. But, desperate to see Eurydice, Orpheus fails. As he turns to catch sight of his love, Eurydice is condemned back to death.
‘Orpheus (The Song Forever)’ is a profoundly special object. Adorned with 32 tipped-in illustrations by Blackman, it is moving and magical. Each image is vibrant and evocative, poetry in line. It is presented in a decorated cloth cover and hand-signed by Amadio and Blackman.
Orpheus (The Song of Forever) will thrill collectors of antiquarian books and Blackman, as well as all who are seduced by story.
