Pilar Castaneda is a celebrated Mexican-born Venezuela-based neorealist painter, printmaker, illustrator and art teacher. Following her studies at the Academy of San Carlos, she taught painting at the Ibero-American University. She was the founder and teacher of the Centro Activo de Arte Infantil (Centre for Children’s Art) from 1970 to 1983. The present work demonstrates the tendencies of the Latin-American muralist tradition and the influences of innovative European art movements in Castaneda’s artistic practice.

The exuberant bouquet of native flowers has been distilled into a simplified composition of geometric forms. It is contrasted effectively against the abstracted neutral tonalities of ochres and greys, emerging into the foreground like a three-dimensional sculptural relief. Acquired in the 1970s, and kept in a pristine condition, this rare to the market print is a must-have for emerging and established connoisseurs of international art and print collecting.
