David Frazer is one of Australia’s preeminent printmakers. His imagery, which is often set in the landscape, is a feat of both technical and narrative ability. As Australian journalist Martin Flanagan reflected, Frazer’s vision both soars above and is “nevertheless implanted” in the land.
In ‘Night Train’, Frazer presents a train winding through the country. The perspective is cut into three windows: flashes of landscape that recall the view from a moving train. Where are you heading: home or away?
Frazer has won numerous awards for his prints, including major prize winner at the 1st International Print Biennale; the Broken Hill Outback Prize; the Acquisitive award; and people’s choice at the Fremantle Print Awards, Hutchins Art Prize and Banyule Works on Paper Award. His work is held across national and regional collections and internationally, at the National Museum of China and the Royal Academy of Art in London.
For admirers of printmaking’s artistry, the Australian landscape and the space to think afforded by a long train journey, ‘Night Train’ is the ride for you.
