Pasquale Giardino is a rebel in art and life. A founding member of Melbourne’s Roar collective, his work deals in the good, the bad and the ugly. Like fellow Roar members David Larwill, Mark Schaller and Sarah Faulkner’s work, Giardino is counter-culture, visceral and always captivating.

In ‘Still Life with Native Flowers’, Giardino draws a still-life on his own terms. Colourful, bold and totally joyous, like free-form jazz it hits a different note with every line, finding the music in the mundane.

Represented at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Giardino is an idiosyncratic yet vital figure of Australian art. A child of punk, Giardino and his fellow Roar comrades yanked art back into the frontline of life.
