Jasper Knight takes after pop masters of the past. Rather than starlets however, he pictures icons of decaying industry - beams, machinery, buildings and lighthouses. Found on the city’s outskirts, these images trade in a strange dichotomy: urban detritus rendered in oozing, technicolour excess.

‘Cape Byron’ is quintessential Knight. He pictures the lighthouse that overlooks Byron Bay from below, creating a sense of awe. Like the crumbling statues of antiquity, ‘Cape Byron’ is an ode to a bygone time. Many of lighthouses now lie mostly dormant, their aesthetic overriding their practical function.

Knight has been a finalist in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes. Using bright, flat colour-blocking with characteristic paint-drips to depict his subjects, Knights style is cool and bold. This statuesque screenprint will an edge to your space, enriching collections of contemporary art and Knight.
