A member of the Yantarrja clan, Jungala Kriss is from Central Australia. His work builds on ancient traditions and is inspired by the land. So deep is this reverence for the region’s landscapes, that he also runs cultural workshops and tours. In ‘Kunia Jukurrpa (Kunia the Snake)’, Kriss constructs an ornamental snake that recalls the story of Kunia, an ancestral snake that traveled along the Songlines during creation.
Intricately detailed and richly coloured, this work will enrich collections of Aboriginal and Australian art, as well as the lives of those who explore it and Kriss’s philosophy of life.
