Stewart MacFarlane is not steered by perfection in his art, he seeks narrative. Captured in the day’s transitional moments - night thawing into morning, afternoon caramelising into sunset - his works are mise en scenes. They are realist with an impressionist edge, surreal in lighting and perspective, and often include an erotic enigma.

In ‘See-Through (Starr)’ MacFarlane presents a woman sprawled across a chair. She is looking directly at the camera, the star of a movie with a plot we are not privy to. Seductive, mysterious and strangely unreal, ‘See-Through (Starr)’ is the Bond girl of fine art.

Having spent considerable time in the US, MacFarlane is influenced by Alex Katz, Janet Fish (who he worked under) and Chuck Close. He is represented at the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank and Queensland Art Gallery. For collectors of figurative and narrative art, tune into the alluring ‘See-Through (Starr)’.
