Max Middleton 'In the Pool'

Regular price $6,500.00

At just twelve years old, Max Middleton knew he wanted to be an artist. Across the next eight decades he achieved this, studying first under H. Septimus Power and then in Europe, achieving esteem for his en plein air talents. As an en plein air painter, he would spend hours under wide Australian sky, studying the miraculous shifting of light on the terrain. In regional Spain however, he chose to paint locals - a decision that invited the human figure into his landscapes. In In the Pool, Middleton s interests in people and light unite. In it, he distills a nude figure bathing in shallow water. Golden light infuses the scene, harmonising the woman with her surroundings in sanguine, sun-drenched palette. Described as having a gentle reverence for life, Middleton s approach to art mirrors his approach to life. In both, he leaves bountiful room to enjoy the view.
