Sidney Nolan is considered among Australia’s greatest artists. His legacy is entwined with myth - Ned Kelly haunting the Australian outback, Gallipoli, Burke and Wills - all told in inventive ways.

‘Miner II’ is an ode to the backbone of Australian industry, as well as Nolan’s own working class roots. After spending time in London with the literati, he travelled to Australia’s mines — finding inspiration in the people who worked there. The resultive works are almost religious, the icon of the two fingers symbolic of the human and divine.

Nolan is represented in every state gallery and internationally at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and London’s Tate. Nolan’s Miner series is revered, with one work at London’s Tate. Noble and mysterious, this enigmatic portrait will enrich collections of important modern art.
