Among Australia’s most celebrated artists, John Perceval came of artistic age as part of the Angry Penguins. Credited with irreversibly changing the course of Australian art, this group, which also included Sidney Nolan and Arthur Boyd reconfigured bodies, landscapes and life in Australia.

In his role Perceval offered originality, liveliness and spontaneity – of which ‘Boatshed, Studley Park’ emmantes. Free-flowing and gorgeously coloured, it depicts Melbourne’s iconic Studley Park. For Perceval and his artistic colleagues, Melbourne was a deeply formative setting; it was fecund with inspiration and meaning, making this drawing a kind of ode to place.

Vibrant, original and by one of Australia’s most collectible artists, ‘Boatshed, Studley Park’ is for Melbournites, collectors of Modern art and those hankering after a tranquil view.
