Josie Petrick Kemarre 'Untitled '

Regular price $1,080.00

Josepha Petrick Kemarre is an Anmatyerre-speaking Indigenous Australian artist from Central Australia. She is best known for her highly deatiled and brilliantly coloured interpretations of the womens stories and bush tucker familiar to her community and country. She is also admired for her unique linework and masterful placement of colour on canvas. In this untitled painting, Josie uses incredible, rich colours to evoke powerful emotions from viewers - layering and building paint to create a wonderful, moody energy. Like the Colorfield paintings so celebrated throughout the 1960s, this piece exudes an undeniable spirituality, drawing the viewer into a beautiful, complex landscape of smoky purples, flushes of luscious pink and blood-moon reds. At the same time, Josies visible brush dots or blots add something tactile to this work, revealing the wonderful humanness of Josies technique. Since first taking up painting in around 1990, Josies works of contemporary Indigenous Australian art have been acquired by several major collections including Artbank and the National Gallery of Victoria. Coming to us from a private collection, this is a fantastic opportunity to add an original and beautiful piece of Indigenous art to your collection.
