Kathleen Petyarre 'Anangkere Country' - acrylic on canvas - indigenous aboriginal painting

Regular price $4,250.00

Kathleen Petyarre is one of Australias most collected Aboriginal artists. Born in Atnangkere on the western boundary of Utopia Station, 150 miles (240 km) north-east of Alice Springs in Australias Northern Territory, she belongs to the Alyawarre/Eastern Anmatyerre clans, and is the niece of the influential Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Petyarre is an internationally-recognised artist, who continues to be exhibited and collected by institutions and collectors world-wide - including the Louvre in Paris. Similarly, a book about her art titled Genius of Place was published in 2001 in conjunction with a solo exhibition of her works at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Her art-making career began in the late 1970s when she began experimenting with batik, later moving onto painting with acrylic paint on canvas. It is with painting that Petyarre has made her mark as an accomplished and sought-after Australian artist. Petyarres paintings are unique and distinctive, and her ability to give movement and depth to her painted surfaces is celebrated. Often adopting an aerial perspective, the traditional landscapes and Dreaming stories that she depicts are beautifully engulfed in swathes of colour and texture. This untitled painting is a beautiful example of this. Coming to us from a private collection, this is a fantastic opportunity to add an original and significant piece of Indigenous art to your collection.
