Arthur Russell had two passions in life: art, and pedagogy. He grew up in Wickepin, along the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. This experience of landscape suffuses his work, which is often set under a broad sun, shadows casting dramatic silhouettes.

In the striking ‘Untitled (Between Two Points)’, Russell envisions a nude figure suspended between two boulders. The configuration is poetic, a visual metaphor for being caught between a rock and hard place. Its a feat in composition, execution and vision.

Russell is an esteemed artist. He received a Centenary Medal in 2003 for his services to Art and Teaching, and is represented in numerous public collectors including at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. The profound ‘Untitled’ is a masterclass in watercolour — vivid and poetic.

It will enliven collections of the nude and works on paper.
