Amanda Upton’s visual world is equal parts whimsical and mysterious. Her characters occupy richly detailed scenes, sometimes fantastical, sometimes familiar. In ‘Hiding’, a tattooed woman is camouflaged against the forest. Leaves cascade from the trees, perhaps at the whim of this woman who appears part human, part ecology.

Upton is an acclaimed artist and illustrator. Her work was included in Luerzers Archive Magazine collection of the world’s best illustrators and she was a Walkley Award finalist in 2000. She began her career as a cadet illustrator for the Courier Mail, then Sydney Morning Herald.

Reminiscent of magic realism, Upton’s vision finds the magic in everyday life. For collectors of contemporary prints and works on paper, behold ‘Hiding’.
