Raelene Williams 'The Seven Whirly Winds of Kurrajong Utopia'

Regular price $1,600.00

Raelene Williams Ngala was born c.1964 in central Australia. She is an accomplished painter, best known for her paintings that represent Walpa Pukla - or Whirly Winds. Whirly Winds are a familiar occurrence in Central Australia, where swirling gusts of air are often seen moving and rotating rapidily, collecting leaves, sand and debris in their paths. For some, these whirly winds are embodied spirits. Williams Seven Whirly Winds of Kurrajong Utopia is an iconic work painted in elegant, muted earth tones. The seven curvaceous forms in the foreground are mesmerizing as they appear to sway in front of the viewers eyes. As such, there is something mysterious and powerful about these figures, who straddle the frontier between realms of the earthly and the divine. Are these just clusters of wind, or ancient spirits? Without a doubt, this beautiful work prompts us to open our minds, and remember that sometimes - not everything is as it seems. Coming to us from a private collection, this is a fantastic opportunity to add an original and beautiful piece of Indigenous art to your collection.
