Sophia Szilagyi

B. 1973

Sophia Szilagyi is a Melbourne based artist who works predominantly in digital printmaking. Manipulating the photorealistic expectations of pigment printing, Szilagyi intricately edits, layers and alters multiple images to create a single original print. These works, melancholic and serene, stoke the feelings of fear, danger and wonder that wander both nature and the human imagination.

With numerous solo and group exhibitions, Szilagyi has practised since the early 1990s. She has received a commission from the Print Council of Australia, exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Photography and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and has been collected by Artbank, alongside numerous tertiary and regional museums. A member of “new romantics”, Szilagyi’s hypnotic visions directs us to new ways of seeing.
